EKG Technician

Electrocardiograph (EKG) technicians, also popularly known as cardiographic or electrocardiographic technicians, are assigned to perform tests and help doctors analyze patients for cardiovascular disease. 

​

 In an EKG Technician Training course, an EKG technician will perform tests that will record the condition of the heart and identify any underlying heart conditions. It is an immense aid in the treatment and detection of cardiovascular problems in patients.

Topics to be covered include basic cardiac anatomy and physiology, patient preparation, patient confidentiality, identification of irregularities of the heart and distinguishing more complex arrhythmias, cardiac modalities and pharmacology, with a slight emphasis on complex heart rhythms, electrical disturbances, disorders and pacemakers. Course completion will enable student to sit for NHA national certification exam.

Instructional Area:

​

  • 4 Weeks course

  • Hybrid classes includes chapters, assignments, and tests which are completed online.

  • In-person days are Fridays & Saturdays from 10am - 2pm. 

  • Totaling 62 hours of applied studies and laboratory.

  • Students must perform 12-lead hands on studies to complete course (final exam/test-out)

  • The Cardiovascular System

  • Exercise Electrocardiography

  • The Electrocardiograph

  • Ambulatory Monitoring

  • Performing an EKG

  • Clinical Presentation 

  • Rhythm Strip Interpretation

  • Management of the Cardiac Patient

Course Goals:

At the end of this course the student will be able to: 

​

  • Administer EKGs and stress tests

  • Prepare patients for ambulatory monitoring

  • Communicate tests to physicians

  • Transcribe physician test readings

  • Pass the NHA Certification Examination to become a Certified EKG Technician (CET).
